AREA 10 LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

March 03, 2025 10:02 AM | Brittney Roehrich (Administrator)

We are officially feeling like spring across the state with minimal snow left on the ground! With that, our big event coming up this spring is the Area 10 Leadership Conference and registration is live along with the hotel block. This training which will be held on April 16-17 in Des Moines, Iowa, is uniquely designed to offer sessions that support the professional development of both member leaders and association staff. The conference will start off with “Build My Future” which is a hands-on career event where students can meet employers to try job-specific skills in careers in construction and more.

We just returned from the 81st International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas. Various meetings were held for National Delegates, HBA staff, BUILD-PAC trustees, amongst many other NAHB committees and councils. The annual Area 10 (ND, SD, WI, MN, IA) reception was at the Westgate where all members and student chapters were invited. Other events included the BUILD-PAC parties, Opening Ceremonies featuring David Spade, and the Chris Janson Closing Concert. Teams from NDSU and NDSCS competed in the NAHB Student Chapter competitions. NDSCS placed 3rd in their category! Mark your calendar for IBS 2026 (February 17-19) which will be held in Orlando, FL for the last time for the foreseeable future.

March is Women’s History month, which incorporates National Women in Construction Week early in the month (March 2-8). North Dakota currently has two Professional Women in Building Councils which includes the Bismarck-Mandan Professional Women in Building Council (established in 2020) and the Building Industry Association of the Red River Valley Professional Women in Building Council (established in 2024). Both councils represent women who are actively involved in all aspects of the building industry as business owners, marketing experts, interior designers, realtors, banking professionals, etc. The newly established Bakken Area Skills Center in Watford City will be hosting a “Women of Industry Day” on March 20th for students to learn about different careers which is vital for workforce development.

We are in month three of the North Dakota 69th Legislative Session. NDAB, which includes our lobbyist Lisa Feldner with Integrity Public Affairs, has a presence at the ND State Capitol Building every day while the legislature is in session. The NDAB Government Affairs Committee has been meeting weekly to discuss important bills related to our industry and will continue to do so until the session ends. You can access the 2025 NDAB Legislative Policy Handbook on our website www.ndbuild.com/ndab-policy .
